WHAT TO BRING

Just you! Supplies included :)

In this workshop, we’ll start with some physical grounding exercises, delve into defining what an ode or praise poem is, looking at a few examples together, doing in-workshop writing, and if there’s time at the end, sharing a little bit of what we wrote (only if you want to share. Sharing not required).

Poetry can feel like an inaccessible art form for many, but like any art—music, movies, books—there’s a diversity of types of poetry. This workshop is an invitation to anyone who might feel like they don’t understand poetry and/or those who already have an interest or relationship with poetry. Beginners highly welcome!

About the instructor: Tess Congo is a multi-disciplinary artist. Her writing has appeared in Publisher’s Weekly, PANK magazine, Ripe: Tales of Hunger and Desire (Afterword Books), and elsewhere. Her drawings and photography have been featured in Aegis magazine and Stone Pacific Zine. She has studied writing at the University of New Hampshire, the University of New Orleans, Harvard University, and earned her MFA in poetry from Hunter College.
